This was my dissertation project. I had to research and write 6000 words on chosen subject, then create a studio piece based on my chosen subject.
I chose the theme of Pleasure & Persuasion, where I researched how pleasure is used to persuade us.
My studio piece was in the form of a TINAT helmet:
“The Pleasure Suppressor Helmet will extinguish any pleasurable stimuli created by consumerism. By blocking Dopamine release via electronic pulses fed directly to the brain, the user will be liberated from the persuasive nature of this pleasure. Thus, the user impervious from hedonism, addiction and the detrimental consequences.”
Of course, the customer will have to submit to consumerism anyway to purchase the hat. Oh the irony.
